Laser scarring treatment at Regenesis Aesthetic + Wellness, Kent Town SA

Laser treatment for skin scarring

Scarring occurs when the skin's normal repair process is disrupted — whether from acne, surgery, trauma or inflammatory skin conditions. The result is a change in the skin's texture, tone or surface structure that can be difficult to address with topical treatments alone.

Laser scar treatment uses controlled energy to target the scar tissue, stimulating the skin's natural collagen remodelling process. Over a course of treatments, this can lead to a gradual improvement in the appearance, texture and depth of scarring as the skin repairs and renews itself.

At Regenesis we use two laser platforms for scar treatment, selected based on the type, depth and location of your scarring and your individual skin type. All treatments are performed by qualified practitioners following a thorough skin assessment at consultation.

Skin concerns

This treatment may assist with the following concerns. Suitability is determined at consultation.

  • Atrophic (depressed) scarring
  • Post-acne scarring including icepick, boxcar and rolling scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Trauma scars
  • Textural irregularities associated with scarring
  • Post-inflammatory changes in the skin's surface structure

Devices at Regenesis

Your practitioner will determine which device is most appropriate for your scar type, depth and skin at consultation. Both platforms work by stimulating collagen remodelling in the treated area, with slightly different mechanisms and depths of action.

The treatment experience

Your first appointment begins with a skin assessment. Your practitioner will assess the type, depth and extent of your scarring, your skin type and determine which device and treatment approach is most appropriate. Your skin will be cleansed at the start of your appointment.

During treatment, the laser handpiece is passed over the scarred area in a controlled pattern. You may feel warmth or a mild snapping sensation depending on the device used. Sessions typically take between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

After treatment the skin in the treated area may appear flushed and feel warm. Some mild swelling, redness and sensitivity in the days following treatment is normal. Your practitioner will provide specific aftercare instructions at your appointment.

Scar remodelling is a gradual process. Improvement occurs progressively over the weeks and months following each session as new collagen forms and the scar tissue remodels.

Treatment plan and recovery

A minimum of 4 sessions is recommended for laser scar treatment. Scar remodelling is a gradual and cumulative process — each session builds on the last, with ongoing collagen remodelling occurring between appointments. The number of sessions required varies by scar type, depth and individual skin response and will be discussed at your initial consultation.

Sessions are spaced 4 weeks apart to allow sufficient recovery and collagen remodelling between treatments.

Downtime is typically 2 to 5 days, depending on the device used and the intensity of treatment. You may experience redness, mild swelling, dryness and sensitivity in the treated area during recovery. Specific aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment.

Sun protection is essential throughout your treatment course. UV exposure can compromise the skin's ability to remodel and should be minimised where possible.

Common questions

Is laser treatment suitable for all scar types?+
Laser treatment is most appropriate for atrophic (depressed) scarring such as post-acne scarring and surgical scars. Hypertrophic (raised) or keloid scarring requires a different approach and may not be suitable for the laser platforms used at Regenesis. Your practitioner will assess your scarring at consultation and advise on the most appropriate treatment.
Is this treatment suitable for all skin types?+
Both devices used at Regenesis can be used across a range of skin types, however appropriate device selection and settings are important — particularly for darker skin tones where the risk of pigmentation changes requires careful management. Your practitioner will assess your skin at consultation and recommend the safest and most appropriate approach.
How should I prepare for my appointment?+
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Your skin will be cleansed at the start of your appointment. Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for 5 to 7 days prior. Let your practitioner know about any medications you are taking. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup if possible.
What can I expect after treatment?+
You may notice redness, warmth and mild swelling in the treated area immediately after treatment. This typically settles over 2 to 5 days. Keep the skin clean, moisturised and protected with SPF 50+. Avoid picking or rubbing the treated area during recovery. Scar improvement occurs gradually over the weeks following each session as the skin remodels.
How many sessions will I need?+
A minimum of 4 sessions is recommended. The total number of sessions depends on the type, depth and extent of your scarring and your individual skin response. More severe or deeper scarring may require additional sessions. Your practitioner will provide a more personalised estimate at your initial consultation.
Can laser treatment completely remove scarring?+
Laser treatment may assist in improving the appearance, texture and depth of scarring over a course of treatments. The degree of improvement varies by scar type, depth, skin type and individual response. A thorough consultation is conducted before treatment to discuss realistic expectations based on your specific scarring. Individual results vary.
Can this be combined with other treatments?+
Laser scar treatment is often combined with other modalities as part of a broader treatment plan — including microneedling, collagen induction or in-clinic skincare. Your practitioner will assess your skin and recommend a plan that addresses your scarring concerns in the most appropriate and appropriate way.
Is this treatment safe during pregnancy?+
Laser treatments are generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please advise your practitioner before booking.
