Laser acne treatment at Regenesis Aesthetic + Wellness, Kent Town SA

Laser treatment for acne-prone skin

Acne is a complex skin condition with multiple contributing factors including excess sebum production, congestion in the follicle, bacterial activity and inflammation. While topical and oral treatments address some of these factors, laser therapy offers a complementary approach by targeting the skin at a deeper level.

Laser acne treatment works by delivering controlled light energy into the skin to reduce sebaceous gland activity, target acne-associated bacteria and calm inflammation in the tissue. The result is a reduction in active breakouts and an improvement in overall skin clarity over the course of treatment.

At Regenesis we use two laser platforms for acne treatment, selected based on your skin type, the nature of your acne and your skin's current state. All treatments are performed by qualified practitioners following a thorough skin assessment at consultation.

Skin concerns

This treatment may assist with the following concerns. Suitability is determined at consultation.

  • Active acne and recurring breakouts
  • Inflammatory acne lesions
  • Congestion and clogged follicles
  • Excess sebaceous (oil gland) activity
  • Skin redness associated with acne
  • Post-acne skin tone irregularity

Devices at Regenesis

Your practitioner will determine which device is most appropriate for your skin and acne presentation at consultation. Both platforms approach acne treatment through different mechanisms and are suited to different skin types and acne severities.

Spectra XT

Clarity II
Dual-wavelength Nd:YAG 1064nm and Alexandrite 755nm platform. Targets inflammation and sebaceous activity across a range of skin types. From $400

The treatment experience

Your first appointment begins with a skin assessment. Your practitioner will assess the nature and severity of your acne, your skin type and determine which device and settings are most appropriate. Your skin will be cleansed at the start of your appointment.

During treatment, the laser handpiece is passed over the treatment area. You may feel a mild warming or gentle snapping sensation depending on the device used. Sessions typically take between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the area being treated.

Immediately after treatment your skin may appear slightly flushed and feel warm. This typically settles within a few hours. Downtime is generally minimal and most clients return to their normal routine the same day.

Treatment plan and recovery

A minimum of 3 sessions is recommended for laser acne treatment. Results are progressive and build across the treatment course as sebaceous activity reduces and the skin's inflammatory response settles. Sessions are typically spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart.

Downtime is generally little to none. You may experience mild redness and warmth in the treated area for a few hours following treatment. Most clients manage this comfortably and return to normal activity the same day in most cases. Specific aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment.

Sun protection is important throughout your treatment course. UV exposure can aggravate inflammation and compromise your skin's response to treatment.

Laser acne treatment is most appropriate as part of a broader skin management approach. Your practitioner may recommend complementary skincare to support your results between sessions.

Common questions

Is this treatment suitable for all skin types?+
Both devices used at Regenesis for acne treatment are suitable across a range of skin types. Device selection and settings are tailored to your individual skin at consultation. Your practitioner will assess your skin type and acne presentation and recommend the most appropriate approach.
Is this treatment suitable for all types of acne?+
Laser treatment is most appropriate for inflammatory acne, congestion and acne associated with excess sebaceous activity. Hormonal acne may also respond well, though it often requires a broader management approach. Very severe or cystic acne may require additional or alternative interventions. Your practitioner will assess your specific presentation at consultation and advise on the most appropriate plan.
How should I prepare for my appointment?+
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Your skin will be cleansed at the start of your appointment. Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for 5 to 7 days prior. Let your practitioner know about any medications you are taking — particularly Roaccutane or other oral acne medications — as these may affect treatment suitability.
Can I have this treatment if I am on Roaccutane?+
Laser treatment is generally not recommended during a course of isotretinoin (Roaccutane) and for a period after completing treatment. Please advise your practitioner of any current or recent use of isotretinoin before booking. Your practitioner will advise on appropriate timing for treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?+
You may notice mild redness and warmth in the treated area immediately after treatment — this typically settles within a few hours. In some cases there may be a temporary flare of acne activity in the first week or two following early sessions as the skin responds. This is not uncommon and should settle as the treatment course progresses. Your practitioner will discuss what to expect at your appointment.
How many sessions will I need?+
A minimum of 3 sessions is recommended. The number of sessions depends on the severity and type of your acne and your individual skin response. Ongoing maintenance treatments may be recommended to manage sebaceous activity over time. Your practitioner will discuss a recommended plan at your initial consultation.
Are there any risks or side effects?+
Potential side effects include temporary redness, warmth and mild swelling. An initial temporary increase in acne activity following early sessions is possible. In some cases, pigmentation changes may occur — this risk is managed through appropriate device selection. Your practitioner will discuss all relevant risks at your consultation.
Is this treatment safe during pregnancy?+
Laser treatments are generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please advise your practitioner before booking.
