Emsella
High-intensity focused electromagnetic therapy for pelvic floor muscle stimulation
Book a ConsultationWhat it is
Electromagnetic pelvic floor muscle stimulation
Emsella is a non-invasive treatment by BTL that uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles. The patient remains fully clothed throughout the treatment, seated on the Emsella chair, while the electromagnetic energy is delivered to the pelvic floor muscle group from beneath.
Pelvic floor weakness is a common concern for both men and women — associated with factors including childbirth, ageing, hormonal changes and lifestyle. Weak pelvic floor muscles can contribute to symptoms including urinary leakage, reduced bladder control and pelvic discomfort. Emsella aims to address the muscle weakness itself by stimulating pelvic floor contractions during treatment.
As with all treatments, individual responses vary. Emsella is not a medical treatment and is not intended to replace medical assessment or management of pelvic floor conditions. Suitability is confirmed at consultation and individuals with significant pelvic floor or urological concerns are encouraged to consult their medical practitioner in addition to seeking treatment at Regenesis.
Who it may assist
Who may benefit
Emsella may be considered by the following individuals. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
- Women experiencing stress urinary incontinence or urge incontinence
- Post-partum women experiencing pelvic floor weakness
- Women in perimenopause or menopause experiencing bladder control changes
- Men experiencing urinary symptoms associated with pelvic floor weakness
- Individuals seeking pelvic floor strengthening as part of a broader wellness approach
- Individuals who have completed pelvic floor physiotherapy and are looking for a complementary approach
Emsella is not a replacement for medical assessment or physiotherapy. Individuals with pelvic floor or urological concerns are encouraged to consult their GP or specialist.
Technology used
How Emsella works
Emsella uses HIFEM electromagnetic technology — the same technology used in Emsculpt for body muscle groups — focused on the pelvic floor muscles. The electromagnetic energy passes through clothing and tissue to reach the pelvic floor, inducing thousands of supramaximal contractions during each session.
What to expect
The treatment experience
Your first appointment begins with a consultation and assessment. Your practitioner will discuss your pelvic floor concerns, review your health history and confirm whether Emsella is appropriate for your situation. Pricing is confirmed at this appointment.
During treatment, you sit fully clothed on the Emsella chair for approximately 30 minutes. The electromagnetic energy is delivered through the chair seat to the pelvic floor. You will feel pelvic floor muscle contractions throughout the session — the sensation is unusual but most clients find it manageable. Intensity can be adjusted throughout the session. You can read, use your phone or simply rest during treatment.
Following treatment most clients are able to return to their normal routine immediately. Some clients notice mild muscle fatigue in the pelvic floor area following their session, similar to the sensation following physical exercise. This typically resolves within a short period. Individual responses vary.
Sessions + Maintenance
Treatment plan and maintenance
A minimum of 6 sessions is recommended for Emsella, typically delivered twice weekly over 3 weeks for the initial course. This schedule is designed to allow the pelvic floor muscles to respond progressively to the stimulation over the treatment period.
Maintenance sessions are typically recommended following the initial course to sustain the muscle response over time. The frequency of maintenance varies by individual and will be discussed at your consultation following the initial course.
Downtime is generally minimal for most clients. Most clients are able to return to normal activities immediately following each session. As with all treatments addressing muscle function, individual responses vary considerably and realistic expectations are discussed at consultation.
