Redness and vein laser treatment at Regenesis Aesthetic + Wellness, Kent Town SA

Laser treatment for vascular skin concerns

Redness and visible veins on the face are caused by dilated or broken capillaries close to the skin's surface. They are common, particularly in individuals with fair skin, rosacea or those who have experienced prolonged sun exposure. While not a medical concern in most cases, they can affect skin appearance and tone.

At Regenesis, we use medical-grade laser technology to target the haemoglobin in visible blood vessels. The laser energy is absorbed by the vessel, causing it to collapse and be gradually cleared by the body. The surrounding skin tissue is not affected.

All treatments are performed by qualified practitioners following a thorough skin assessment at consultation.

Skin concerns

This treatment may assist with the following concerns. Suitability is determined at consultation.

  • Generalised facial redness and flushing
  • Rosacea-associated redness (erythema)
  • Visible capillaries on the nose, cheeks and chin
  • Spider veins on the face
  • Port wine stains and vascular birthmarks (assessed case by case)
  • Post-inflammatory redness following acne or skin trauma
  • Uneven skin tone associated with vascular irregularity

Devices at Regenesis

Clarity II
Dual-wavelength Nd:YAG 1064nm and Alexandrite 755nm platform. Effective across a range of vascular presentations. From $450

The treatment experience

Your first appointment begins with a skin assessment. Your practitioner will assess the nature and extent of your vascular concern, your skin type and determine which device and settings are most appropriate.

During treatment, the laser handpiece is passed over the treatment area. You may feel a mild stinging or snapping sensation as the laser pulses. Sessions typically take between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the area being treated. A cooling system is used to maintain comfort throughout.

Immediately after treatment you may notice mild redness and warmth in the treated area. Visible vessels may appear darker initially before gradually fading over the following days to weeks. Your skin will be cleansed at the start of your appointment.

Treatment plan and recovery

Most clients require a minimum of 3 sessions to address their vascular concern. The number of sessions depends on the severity and extent of redness or vessel visibility, skin type and individual response to treatment. Your practitioner will discuss a recommended plan at consultation.

Sessions are typically spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart to allow the skin to settle and the treated vessels to clear between appointments.

Downtime is generally minimal. You may experience mild redness, warmth and slight swelling in the treated area for a few hours following treatment. Most clients return to normal activity the same day in most cases. Specific aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment.

Sun protection is important throughout your treatment course. Sun exposure can aggravate redness and vascular conditions and should be minimised where possible.

Common questions

Is this treatment suitable for all skin types?+
Suitability depends on your skin type and the nature of your vascular concern. Both devices used at Regenesis are effective across a range of skin tones, however the appropriate wavelength and settings vary by individual. Your practitioner will assess your skin at consultation and recommend the most appropriate approach.
How should I prepare for my appointment?+
Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Your skin will be cleansed at the start of your appointment. Avoid using retinoids and exfoliating acids for 5 to 7 days prior. Let your practitioner know about any medications you are taking, particularly blood thinners or those that cause photosensitivity. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment as it can increase flushing.
What can I expect after treatment?+
You may notice mild redness, warmth and slight swelling immediately after treatment — this typically settles within a few hours. Treated vessels may appear slightly darker or more prominent initially before beginning to fade over the following days to weeks. Avoid heat exposure (saunas, hot showers, exercise) for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment.
How many sessions will I need?+
Most clients require a minimum of 3 sessions. The number of sessions depends on the severity and distribution of your vascular concern and your individual skin response. Generalised redness may require more sessions than a single isolated vessel. Your practitioner will provide a more personalised estimate at consultation.
Are there any risks or side effects?+
Potential side effects include temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling and bruising in the treated area. In rare cases, blistering or changes in pigmentation may occur. Your practitioner will discuss all relevant risks at your consultation and conduct a thorough assessment before treatment begins.
Who is a suitable candidate?+
Suitable candidates are individuals with facial redness, visible capillaries or vascular lesions who are not pregnant or breastfeeding, are not taking photosensitising medications and have not had significant recent sun exposure. Those with active skin infections or inflammatory conditions in the treatment area are not suitable until the condition is resolved. A consultation is required to confirm suitability.
Will the redness or veins return after treatment?+
Treated vessels are addressed, however new vessels can develop over time, particularly with ongoing sun exposure or if the underlying cause (such as rosacea) is not managed. Maintenance treatments may be recommended, and ongoing sun protection is important for maintaining outcomes.
Is this treatment safe during pregnancy?+
Laser treatments are generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please advise your practitioner before booking.

Good to Know

Treated vessels may appear slightly darker immediately after treatment before gradually clearing. This is a normal response.

Avoid heat exposure — saunas, hot showers and vigorous exercise — for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment.

Daily SPF 50+ is important throughout and beyond your treatment course.

Rosacea Clients

If your redness is associated with rosacea, your practitioner will take this into account when planning your treatment. A skincare routine that supports barrier function is often recommended alongside laser treatment for rosacea-prone skin.
